Empowerment and Self-Defense with Paragon BJJ (Co-Ed/All Gender)

Join Paragon Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and RISE for an educational, empowerment self-defense workshop on Saturday, November 10, from 2 - 4 pm at the Paragon location in San Luis Obispo!

This event is open to individuals of all identities 12 and over! Please RSVP to paragonslo@sbcglobal.net or 805-305-7512 so we can ensure we have enough instructors on hand.

For individuals not comfortable physically interacting with community members they don't know, we strongly recommended bringing a partner you feel comfortable with!

Education topics to be covered:
Healthy relationships
Awareness building of violence in our community
Ways to feel empowered to prevent and intervene

Self-Defense portion will cover:
Wrist Releases
Bear hug defense
Striking defense
Basic groundwork

The event is free, but we will be accepting donations for RISE!

Free Women's Self Defense Class Nov 12

Nov 12, 2016 10:30am-noon. Held at the SLO academy.

The event is completely free and open to all skill levels. We will be collecting donations for RISE (www.riseslo.org) as well.

We will be offering a free women's self defense class for females ages 14 & up. This is being held at the SLO location. Participants must pre-register by emailing or calling us at paragonslo@sbcglobal.net, 805-305-7512.

This class will introduce the basics of physical self defense. We will cover wrist releases, wall escapes and basic ground work. Participants are also welcome to stay and try kickboxing for free from noon-1.

Active Shooter Civilian Response Workshop April 9

An active shooter is an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area; in most cases active shooters use firearm(s) and there is no pattern or method to the selection of their victims.

This is a seminar led by Sonny Gerber with joint assistance from Sleeping Tiger Fitness and Paragon BJJ. Seminar will provide general guidelines on how civilians should respond to and how to interact with law enforcement during an active shooting incident. This will be held at the SLO Paragon location

Schedule:
10am – Law Enforcement Response
11am – Intro to Krav Maga
Noon – Lunch or try kickboxing class for free
1pm – Intro to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
2pm – Scenario Training

-G3 level Krav Maga instructor with Krav Maga Global
-In 2009 Nathan passed his Level 1 Krav Maga Instructor test with Krav Maga Worldwide and competed in his first Muay Thai bout, which he won. While pursuing his Masters Degree in Kinesiology from Cal Poly, Nathan continued his Muay Thai and Krav Maga training, continuing to compete in Muay Thai all through college and added boxing training with boxing coach Darby Evans.

Self-Defense and Empowerment Workshops are about more than just punching and kicking. Participants are taught how to use their voices, minds, and bodies to protect themselves effectively. Workshops confront the real life fears that all women face. Participants are given options, choices, and techniques for dealing with those fears in a safe and supportive environment.
